Nice
to see Joel Coupland's smiley face at inside centre for Belper - even nicer to
see it planted upside down in the mud! I knew it wasn't a good sign when they
had travelled the 5 miles down the A6 and forgotten their shirts - we
graciously lent them our best green strips (much to the chagrin of my squad)
and then promptly whooped our local rivals scoring 12 tries into the bargain.
In fairness the score flattered us, though we were on fire. High tempo, high
calibre, high drama sums up our performance. In the warm up we lost Jim Smith
with a suspected broken snozzle thanks to Tiny Tim's elbow. A late call up for
super sub Stuey Cormack stolen off the Beests bench and a late appearance by
maverick Jodie Else caused some consternation for the selectors, but Acford
stepped into the breach. The loss of Alex Poyser early on added to our injury
list, but Gary D'Anson was on hand to slot in.
With
the ever-present Welsh wizard Sneade supporting with "Derren
Brown-like" reading of the play, excellent first phase possession, and
imaginative angles of running by our backs the result was never in doubt.
Tries for Sneade(x2), Acford, Else, Simpson(x2), Mabbitt, Fearn, D'Anson,
Woodward, Maddocks and
Wilson
and 6/12 conversions by an assortment of kickers.
Great
team performance this and still only 3 defeats all season!
